IATI & Open Contracting: cross-standard compatibility

Aid and Contracting Data: Same or Different?

In this session we will explore the opportunities for connections between the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) and Open Contracting Data Standard (OCDS)

Both of these standards share many characteristics in approach and design, yet differ in key aspects.  Taking this into account, we will work through three examples of how IATI and OCDS data can be utilised to enable increased transparency and accountability opportunities.

This session will mark the publication of a draft paper, providing a chance for IATI TAG members to discuss opportunities and actions.

What makes data useful, usable and in use?
While there is broad agreement about how to enrich and improve IATI data technically, institutional inertia, technical challenges, and other barriers continue to stymie progress towards better data. As a continuation of an ongoing discussion, the Open Ag Funding Partnership will bring data users and publishers together to discuss ways they can work cooperatively and take advantage of tools and technical assistance to clear these obstacles to make IATI data more open, more granular, and more traceable.

Reporting on results through IATI
This session, led by Dr Mike Smith, Systems Architect at Wateraid and Sarah Johns, Transparency Adviser at Bond, will take a detailed look at the Results element within the IATI Standard and will present improvements to the element that have been co-created with Monitoring and Evaluation specialists in the UK and Europe. These changes would increase the confidence of IATI data publishers that they are reporting good quality, useful results data through removing some of the minor technicalities in the Standard that currently make it difficult for them to do this. Information on the improvements can be found on IATI Discuss. We would like participants to help us to validate and finalise these improvements prior to the Standards day.
